Lobster rolls and New England go hand in hand and list after list is dedicated to the best, the meatiest, the butteriest, the biggest, etc., etc. I’ve written my fair share of these lists, but for me, hand’s down, the best roll is found on Martha’s Vineyard.
You’ll find it in a tiny market in the town of Menemsha. Larsen’s primarily is a fish market, where you can pick up a dozen oysters, a bag of steamers, freshly caught fish and more to cook at home, but walk to the back and you’ll find the to-go area. More often than not when you order a lobster roll, you can watch a staffer pick out the meat, douse it with butter, and put it on a split roll before handing it to you.
You can take it out back and sit on a lobster trap or head to the beach to scarf it down. After you’ve devoured it, you will be tempted to go back for another. Go ahead. I won’t judge.
